Polarizing Microscope with Transmitted Illumination and Reflected Illumination

A polarizing microscope includes an upper polarizing system with a reflected light source and a lower polarizing system with a transmitted light source. Transmitted light is typically used in petrology(petrographic microscope), while reflected light is usually used in mineralogy(ore microscope).
